Trainers: Marsha Hunter

Marsha Hunter, a specialist in courtroom communications, trains attorneys to speak persuasively and spontaneously. Under her guidance, trial lawyers sharpen their advocacy skills and corporate attorneys refine their presentations; all become more articulate, fluent, and eloquent. She teaches all phases of trial: jury selection, opening, direct, cross, closing, how to cope with objections, etc.

Marsha Hunter's fresh insights and unique approach to teaching are due, in part, to her distinctive background as a professional opera singer and an avid pilot. Her years on the stage taught her how to communicate clearly and engage listeners under all conditions. An expertise in aeronautical decision-making and “human factors” – how people perform in high-stakes environments – allows her to focus on how lawyers think, speak, feel, and act in dynamic situations. Drawing upon techniques from sports psychology, linguistics, and cognitive science, Hunter’s teaching method is at once technical and practical.

Marsha Hunter is a partner in Johnson & Hunter, Inc., with legal clients throughout the United States, Canada, and in Europe. She teaches communication skills for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, the US Department of Justice, and elite law firms such as Kirkland & Ellis. Marsha Hunter’s first book, The Articulate Advocate, will be published in April 2009 by Crown King Books.

Marsha Hunter attended The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and holds degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida (Master of Aeronautical Science) and Arizona State University (Bachelor of Music). She lives in the mountains near Prescott, Arizona.
